I may mention that applications have

recently been received from two Cadets, Messrs. Hallifax and

Kemp, for permission to study Hindustani; and to both of those

Officers, so long as they remain in their present employments,

Hindustani would be a most useful accomplishment.

I have therefore the honour to request

your authority to amend General Order 88 so as to empower the

Governor to grant Teacher's Allowance and Bonus not only for

Chinese dialects but also for Japanese and Hindustani.
